1. Is eating food cooked in microwave oven Safe ?

Yes it is completely Safe, Microwave energy on penetrating the food results in agitation of water molecules Present in food. This Agitation Causes friction in these molecules which produces the heat that cooks the food. Since all Microwave energy is converted into heat energy no microwaves are retained in the food making it absolutely Safe for consumption.

2. How safe are the microwave ovens in terms of Safety Mechanism ?

Yes. Using Microwave oven is absolutely Safe. All Microwave Ovens are designed with a safety Mechanism to ensures that the Microwave oven cannot operate unless the door is shut and the start button has been pressed. Opening the door immediately stops the microwave oven which cannot be restarted until the door is securely shut and the start button is pressed Again.

3. How is microwaving a healthier way of Cooking Vegetables ?

Microwaving is a perfect way to cook vegetables as it retains all the vitamins in the vegetables during the cooking process. Water soluble vitamins such as Vitamin C are easily Lost in cooking water. Since very little (often Nil) water is required in microwave cooking, there is hardly any loss of vegetable nutrients. Faster cooking time also means that vegetables retains their Bright Colours and Natural Crunchy Texture.

4.Sometimes steam Accumulates on the Microwave oven door and surface . Is this Normal ?

Yes. It is normal for steam to Accumulate on the door of the microwave oven and even on its surface as food gives off moisture during Cooking. While most steam is removed from the oven by the air that circulates in the microwave oven cavity, some steam may condense on the cooler surface like the Microwave oven door and walls. Wipe off the condensed steam after use with a clean Tissue paper or Dry kitchen Cloth.

5. Can I open the door while the Microwave oven is in use ?

Yes. The Microwave Oven Door can be opened anytime during the Cooking Cycle. The Microwave energy will be instantly cut off and the time and power settings will remain Unchanged (for a specific period of time) until the door is closed again. Remember to Press “Start Button” after closing the door to complete the cooking cycle.

6. Does Microwave energy pass through the viewing screen of the door ?

No. The glass door allows you to keep an eye on your food. The metal screen or the wire mesh on the oven door does not allow microwave energy to pass through but makes it bounce back into the oven cavity.

7.I have heard that it is a good idea to keep a cup of water in the microwave oven when it is not in use ? Why ?

It is for safety precaution in case the oven is accidently switched on and is a particularly good idea, when there are children in the house. A cup of water will absorb the microwaves preventing them from causing any damage to the empty cavity.

8.Is it true that cooking vegetables in microwave ovens reduces the nutrient in the vegetables .

No. This is a Myth. Microwave ovens does not reduce neither it destroys the nutrients in the vegetables. In facts studies have proven that, Vegetables Cooked in microwave oven retains, nearly all folate. On the contrary, it loses about 77% when cooked on a traditional stove.

9. I have heard that microwave ovens consumes a lot of power ?

Absolutely Not, Microwave ovens use less energy (upto 80%less), than conventional oven. In addition to this, microwave oven generally cooks food more faster, and do not generate heat in your kitchen as the microwave oven door is close. So you can save on air conditioning costs during the summers.

10. Is it really possible to cook Indian food in the microwave ovens?

Yes. Of course it is possible to cook Indian food in microwave oven. Modern and advanced microwave ovens are compact and equipped with features such as combination cooking. Here food cooks on solo mode by using microwave and automatically shifts to Grill or convection mode were the heater can give crisp covering and browning on the outer surface. This kind of texture is commonly seen on HOB Cooking eg. Tawa fried fish, Chicken kebabs, Vegetable cutlets. Additionally, all these recipes can be cooked in less time & by retaining maximum flavours in Microwave Ovens.
